WDS - Security Pathway Program

Looking for a career change or new to the job market, and interested in the security industry? We're looking for locals in Karratha to join us as Trainee Security Officers, on either a full-time or casual basis, to work for our global energy client. You'll gain a Certificate II in Security Operations, competitive remuneration once qualified, and work in a unique and varied environment where no two days are the same.

'Clone'

The G4S Security Pathway is a funded path to becoming a Security Officer at our client's site in Karratha. You'll be offered a contract as a Security Officer, on the condition that you gain a WA Security Licence and maintain your employment with G4S.

We'll provide the training for a Certificate II in Security Operations, and then we'll help you obtain a WA Security Licence (subject to you passing relevant checks).

The process takes an average of 12 - 16 weeks. The Security Course runs for 10 full time days in a row, over weekdays and weekends, and you must be available for the full duration.

Our next Pathway Course will commence on Wednesday 20th May 2026 and run until Friday 29th May 2026 - hours will be 8:30am to 4:30pm at a training location in Karratha.

When your Security Licence is granted, you can start employment with G4S to gain experience and you'll be a fully licenced Security Officer with ongoing employment opportunities in Karratha with G4S.

The role of a Facility Security Officer in Karratha

Our Facility Security Officers are trained to support our energy client in delivering energy services safely. In a varied role, their primary responsibility is to ensure the immediate safety and security of the premises and all people on the premises. More specifically, you will be responsible for:

Patrolling large areas.
Serve as part of an Initial Response Team and respond to emergencies and assist paramedics.
Provide surveillance and de-escalate incidents.
Perform drug and alcohol tests.
Provide customer service by assisting all of our client's staff, visitors, and contractors.
Ensure all facility security systems and services are compliant.
Submit detailed reports on safety and security hazards or breaches.

Remuneration

Full time pay rates are below:

Weekdays: $28.86 p/h
Nights: $35.12 p/h
Saturdays: $43.29 p/h
Sundays: $57.72 p/h

You'll also receive 12% Superannuation and 5 weeks of annual leave.

Casual pay rates are below:

Weekdays: $36.08 p/h
Nights: $42.34 p/h
Saturdays: $50.51 p/h
Sundays: $64.94 p/h

You'll also receive 12% Superannuation.

To support our local employees, we also provide a local allowance of $9 per hour, in addition to the above pay rates for both Full Time and Casual employees.

Roster

Training Course Lenght 10 days full time
Training Course Dates + Times Wednesday 20th May to Friday 29th May, 8:30am to 4:30pm

Once you're qualified:
**Shift length:**12-hour shifts
**Shift pattern:**1 week-on and then 1 week-off (including Saturdays & Sunday shifts)
Shift times: A mix of 5 AM - 5 PM and 5 PM - 5 AM.

Recruitment Process

G4S runs a staged recruitment process, which will run for 12-16 weeks, which includes:

Applying online.
Completing a 20-minute phone screen with our Talent Acquisition Advisor, to learn more about the opportunity and get to know you a little more!
A face-to-face interview - to meet the team and experience the work environment.
Background checks, including a national police check, medical assessment and a reference checks.

After signing your employment contract, we'll enroll you in the Certificate II in Security Operations commencing on Wednesday 20th May 2026 running for 10 full days, over weekdays and weekends, concluding on Friday 29th May 2026.

Once you complete the course you'll attend Karratha Police Stations to finalise your training with a short assessments and apply for your WA Security Licence. G4S local administration staff will support you with any queries along the way.

As part of our background checks process we do a medical assessment, which includes the following components:

Height, weight and extrapolated BMI

Drug and alcohol test

How is the Certificate II in Security Operations delivered?

The Certificate II in Security Operations course is delivered by a Registered Training Organisation and runs for 10 full time days in a row, over weekdays and weekends. G4S make all arrangements for you attendance on the course; you will be required to attend in person for the duration at a local training room in Karratha.

The Course Dates are: Wednesday 20th May to Friday 29th May 2026.

What topics does the Certificate II in Security Operations cover?

The course includes the following core units:

Effective communication skills to maintain security
Legal and procedural requirements to work effectively within a security team
WHS, emergency response and evacuation procedures to maintain security
Risk assessment to select and carry out response to security risk situations
Provide quality services to a range of security clients
Protect self and others using basic defensive techniques
Patrol premises to monitor property and maintain security
Screen people, personal effects and items to maintain security
Monitor and control access and exit of persons and vehicles from premises
Monitor and control individual and crowd behaviour to maintain security
Apply security procedures to manage intoxicated persons
Apply security procedures to remove persons from premises
Escort and protect persons and valuables
Provide first aid

Hold a Western Australian Driver's Licence
Pass your Certificate II in Security Operations
Pass the Security Background check for your Western Australian Security License
Willing to commit to 12 months' employment with G4S
