Since 2008, we have supported the NSW Department of Justice Health by providing premium security services at the Long Bay Forensic Hospital in Malabar, NSW. This facility provides specialist health care to approximately 150 adults and adolescents. Please note that this is separate from the Long Bay Prison.

G4S are responsible for security management of the entry and exit of the site for patients, staff, visitors, and contracted service providers.

The role of a Security Officer at Long Bay Forensic Hospital

Our Security Officers at Long Bay Forensic Hospital are responsible for perimeter security, front-of-house security and security escorts. More specifically, duties include:

Usage of Security Management Systems: monitor CCTV, alarm systems, two-way radio, and our duress system.
Screening: screen people through an x-ray machine, with a hand wand, and metal detectors, to ensure that no unauthorised items are taken into the facility.
Control room duties: monitoring a large volume of cameras, which includes general and sally port access control.
Sallyport searching duties: check all vehicles thoroughly and register each vehicle upon entry and exit.
Facilitating patient admissions: take photos of new arrivals and biometrically register them in our system.
Providing security escorts in company vehicles: driving patients to the hospital when needed, with the support of nurses.

Remuneration

Full time Officers receive $38.22 p/h + super during their first 6 months, and $42.83 p/h + super after 6 months (if they have successfully passed probation).

Roster

You'll work on a 24/7 rotating roster (including days, nights, and weekends, and shifts can range from 8 to 12 hours.

What to expect on the first day

Before the first day, new G4S Security Officers at Long Bay Forensic Hospital (LBFH) will be contacted directly by the LBFH team and receive information about their schedule and reporting location.

Training at LBFH is primarily on-the-job, with new employees shadowing experienced officers at each post.

What training is provided?

Training at LBFH is primarily on-the-job, with new employees shadowing experienced officers at each post. New recruits will also participate in a comprehensive training program that includes:

Fire training
Restraint training
Personal safety training
Biometrics training

In addition to the formal training courses, new employees will also receive a comprehensive tour of the facility.

Benefits of the role

Above award pay rates - $38.22 p/h + super during probation, and $42.83 p/h + super after probation.
In-house paid training provided - you will shadow our current officers on each post and do several formal training courses.
Front-of-house role with a limited requirement to deal with adults and adolescents in the facility.

Eligibility criteria

Holder of a current NSW 1A security licence
Holder of a first aid & CPR qualification, or willing to get this before commencement
Holder of a NSW Class C Driver's Licence.
Holder of a current working with children's check (employee version), or willing to get this before commencement
Ability to work a 24/7 roster.
3+ doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
