In the Northern Territory, G4S partners with the Northern Territory Government Department of Corrections (NT DoC) and the Northern Territory Police Force to provide justice services.

We specialise in custodial operations and transport, including prisoner escorts in the Darwin and Katherine areas, court custody services at Darwin Local Court, and custodial medical escorts and supervision.

We also support Police watchhouse duties, and from November 2025, G4S will manage the Darwin Transitional Custody Centre (DTCC), formerly the Darwin Police Prison.

Our Custody and Transport Officers are responsible for the safety, security, and humane custody of individuals in our care. We manage custodial operations across Justice Services in the Northern Territory, including the Darwin Local Court and Custody Watch Houses across the Darwin region. This role encompasses supervision, court-related duties, medical and bedside escorts, transport duties, and adherence to all relevant policies and procedures. You will join an evolving team across these growing operations, working under the guidance of Site Supervisors and an Operations Manager supporting all Justice Service delivery across the Northern Territory.

More specifically you'll be responsible for:

  • Watch House Custody: Looking after the daily routine, watch house operations. and supervision of people in custody - including providing first aid when required.
  • Court Custody: You'll be responsible for court cell management, escorting people in custody to and from courtrooms, and managing the custody of people awaiting court appearances.
  • Transportation: Safely transporting people in custody to designated locations such as courts, medical appointments, hospitals, and custody centres.
  • Bed Sits and Medical Supervision: Continuous security monitoring and observation, risk mitigation, reporting, and ensuring patient welfare within a public health setting.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Preparing quality written reports relating to prisoner information, prisoner assessments, incidents, and transport logs - ensuring documentation complies with legal requirements.

These staff work in correctional facilities, courts, police custody, electronic monitoring, prisoner transport, and offender rehabilitation, as Correctional Officers, Prisoner Transport Officers, Nurses, Clinicians, Support Officers and Custody Officers.

By managing people in prison and delivering safety, security and respect for people in custody, including transporting and escorting offenders, G4S keeps communities safe and reduces re-offending.
